OK, so Mother's
Kitchen got a citation for
infestation a long time ago. We
forgave them. We've worked in
restaurants and truth be known,
you'll probably not find a
spotless restaurant.
Mother's cleaned up its act and
we came back. A favorite of
locals and visitors, the small,
casual indoor cafe offers a
friendly vibe, delicious salads,
soups and meals that show
they've mastered the art of a
meatless, flavorful dish.
Recently
enjoying a Reuben Sandwich made
with cheese, a bit of kraut and
delicious roasted red bell
pepper sauce, the meal was
thoroughly enjoyable (we love
even meat-filled Reubens but
usually take the meat out and
just enjoy the flavor it
provides.)
The vegan menu
at Mother's offers more
traditional American-style
cuisine options that the Bodhi
Tree and the Asian style
restaurants that make ample use
of curry and exotic spices. At
Mother's you'll usually find
some sort of lasagne or pasta
dish, plenty of fresh salads,
hearty meals, sandwiches and
soups. The menu is extensive in
offerings.
While
visiting, prepare to shop.
Waters, sodas, vitamins, health
products and too many items to
mention, cram the shelves to the
ceiling in the attached store.
Wheel of Life Thai cuisine
is a vegan restaurant that's
popular with locals. We've not
tried it but intend to very
soon. The restaurant we have
eaten at and enjoyed is the
Bodhi Tree in downtown
Huntington Beach. For real
non-meat eaters, you can
actually purchase meats for
take-home that look very much
like chick breasts or turkey.
The fresh made soups are
delicious and the meals are
enjoyable. So authentic is the
preparation that you'll swear
you're eating meat--but you're
not. Be sure to check it
out for a healthy option and
must-try for vegans.
