| The best
ocean view in Huntington Beach
dining, combined with great food
is afforded at Duke's Huntington
Beach or Ruby's at the end of
the Huntington Beach Pier. The
TS Restaurants chain of beach
view restaurants in California
and Hawaii includes a restaurant
located at the base of the deck
of the Huntington Beach Pier.
Maxwell's was
long known as the view
restaurant that Duke's has
replaced. Maxwell's was
completely torn down and this
new restaurant built in its
place, offering affordable menus
of fresh seafood, salads,
sandwiches, Sunday brunch and a
full cocktail bar with Happy
Hour drinks and menus. The
view from the bar is a bit more
limited, but for one of the top
two views, Duke's Huntington
Beach has it.
Duke's is the
"finer dining" option, while
Ruby's offers diner-style
munching. The views at Ruby's
are wide open ocean scenes. You
mostly can see surfers,
fisherman and on clear days see
the distant piers of Newport
Beach. Ruby's is great for a
casual meal with friends where
you feel like simpler menus,
bright lighting and cafe booths.
Down below
Dukes on beach level is Chimayo
at the Beach. It shares the same
valet parking attendants and
offers sand views, mango
martinis and menus with
Southwestern or California
fusion flair.
Another
partial view restaurant is
located at the Hilton Waterfront
Beach Resort. Guests can sit in
a casually elegant dining room
at Palm Court or sit
patio-poolside and see beyond
the see-through partition to the
Pacific Ocean. If this
hotel built a restaurant on
their top floor, it would be a
wow!
Casual snack
bars such as
Zack's on the beach
serve burgers and even BBQ
chicken on the outdoor grill on
hot summer days. The tables are
picnic style with umbrellas and
beach breeze.

posted Oct. 2007: Duke's is
known as the place to take
friends from out of town.
Barbara arrived from Sacramento
and was determined she wanted to
eat in Newport Beach. But as we
strolled by Dukes on our way to
my car, she decided to try it.
When she ordered the fish taco
platter, she absolutely was
delighted. You get two fish
tacos with choice of
batter-fried, cajun or grilled.
Crunchy cabbage & lettuce,
salsa, sour cream and guacamole
are served, as well as a thin
slice of lime. It is quite
filling, and really a great
option under $10.
