Margaritas in Huntington Beach
are a hot commodity. While some
imbibers have turned to crafted
brews or designer martinis, a
staple in this largely Hispanic
area (Hispanics now are the
largest ethnic group in Southern
California at 40.57%) is still
the margarita. Imported tequilas
from south of the California
border typically come from
Tequila, a town in the western
Mexican state of Jalisco. Native
to Mexico, the blue agave
tequilana weber plant is used in
production of a liquor
ranging in alcoholic content
from around 35% to 55% or 70 to
110 proof. We've long loved
the Don Jose's consistent
maragaita, a blended drink with
plenty of salt on the rim and a
touch of fresh lime. Their
margarita is not particular
strong. It is made nearly
precisely to recipe and if you
like it lot, you may consider
ordering a pitcher for your
group.
Standout margaritas and house
tequila -based cocktails are a
standout at another cocktail bar
within a restaurant at Mario's
at 5 Points Plaza shopping
center. We've never
had a boring margarita there.
The especially nice staff and
owners of this family-run
business welcome guests to stay
and enjoy discussion or
socializing in a cocktail bar
that's dimmed from the outdoor
lights with dark window tinting
so it could be night nearly any
time. It's kind of step
back to the old-style bars and
adds to the experience of this |
