Don't know if you noticed that
we spelled BBQ three ways, but
we did that because the
controversy over how to spell it
is as fiery as the type of wood
you use to smoke your food.
We're not on the Central Coast
where it's mostly oak, though
our local pizza and Italians
restaurants seem to prefer that
type of wood for flavoring.
Well, there's only one Barbeque
joint in all of Huntington Beach
as far as we're concerned.
Smokin' Mo's BBQ is it. We
travel the globe, sampling the
menus and recipes of the finest
gourmet chefs in the world's top
restaurants and hotels. But
after a few days, one begins to
linger for some soul food. Mo's
BBQ offers hickory smoked
chicken that's our favorite.
Some prefer the ribs, smoked
turkey, sausages or burgers.
Those are all fine, but the
chicken's always on our mind.
Four dynamite BBQ sauces include
Philthy Phil's, slightly
reminiscent of an A-1 steak
sauce flavored base. The Sweet
Carolina Honey is also mighty
fine. (There's also a hot sauce
and original flavor.)
The smoke flavor and
seasonings absorb throughout the
meats for a finger-licking good
meal. BBQ beans with bits of
tomato, cole slaw or fries
(killer garlic fries are an
option), make this one hot
property in downtown Huntington
Beach. Top it off with Les
Draper's sweet, brewed iced tea
(Southern Style) and you've got
yourself a satisfying meal you
could travel throughout the US
and maybe never find. Why? Les
and his business partners took a
trip around the USA to come up
with the ingredients to make
their food the best. They went
to all the top barbeque
restaurants, shacks and
smokehouses to come up with
their offerings.
While other restaurant chains
charge more for the same great
food, at Smokin' Mo's BBQ you
get the beach, casual and
delicious. Note: There is
another BBQ restaurant in
Huntington Beach and
Kathy May's also serves BBQ.
We tried them both and found
them satisfactory. |
